Joe believes there are few related parties with a vested interest in protecting the independent CEF investor. Many broker/dealers who distribute the CEF investment products are seen as motivated by the economics of the CEF IPOs. With few follow-on offerings, little institutional interest and insufficient after market trading, CEF underwriting can be considered a "one-off" business. There are few economic reasons for broker/dealers to sponsor quality CEF investment research. Consequently, this market segment is under-researched where value-added research could generate excess returns with less than market risk
